Houhai Lake

This photograph was made on the Summer solstice, in the last light of the day on the longest day of the year. On the far end of this ancient lake in central Beijing is the Drum Tower, a symbol of dynastic China. The streams of light at the lake’s edges are from the new bars and restaurants that have transformed Houhai Lake into a hot spot for nightlife.
